About Wild Wyverns Armoured Combat

Who We Are

Wild Wyverns Armoured Combat is the Buhurt team of Springwood, Queensland. We compete in full-contact medieval armoured combat, fighting as a team in the traditions of historical tournament combat — and we do it in genuine steel armour.

We train hard, fight harder, and stand together as one club. Whether you're drawn to the raw physicality of Buhurt, the precision of duels, or the grappling intensity of Outrance, there's a place for you here.

Our Mission

To build a world-class armoured combat team in Queensland — fostering strength, discipline, camaraderie, and respect for the historical traditions of our sport.

Our Values

  • Unity — We win as a team and we lose as a team. No fighter is left behind.
  • Discipline — Training is consistent, intentional, and progressive.
  • Respect — For your opponents, your teammates, your coaches, and the sport.
  • Courage — Stepping onto the field in steel armour takes something. We cultivate it.

Our Disciplines

Buhurt

Team-based full-contact armoured combat. Fighters wearing historical steel armour compete in formations, using blunted steel weapons to overwhelm and outmanoeuvre the opposing team. Physical, tactical, and relentless.

Duels

Focused 1v1 combat emphasising precision, timing, and weapon control. Fights are scored on clean, controlled strikes. A test of individual skill and composure under pressure.

Outrance

Dynamic 1v1 full-contact combat that combines weapon strikes with controlled grappling. More demanding than duels, Outrance rewards fighters with both technical skill and physical resilience.

The Committee

  • Gabby — President
  • Mason — Vice President

Men's Team

Our men's team competes in blue under the Wild Wyverns banner in Buhurt, duels, and Outrance. Training five days a week at The Wyvern's Den, the men's squad is a mix of seasoned fighters and promising newcomers.

Women's Team — The Sisterhood

The Sisterhood is our women's team, competing in red. They train and compete alongside the men's squad at equal intensity. Women-specific sessions (Femmes Session) are available — check the Classes page for details.

What is Buhurt?

Buhurt (from the Old French bouhourt) is a form of full-contact medieval combat sport governed by the International Medieval Combat Federation (IMCF). Fighters wear historically accurate steel armour — not foam, not plastic — and use blunted steel weapons. Strikes, takedowns, and controlled grappling are all part of the sport.

It is one of the most physically demanding combat sports in the world.
